High Performance Application Development Environments for Linux

John Kaster, Developer Relations, Borland/Inprise Corporation

John Kaster will review the current state of the Linux, Linux development tools, and describe how Project Kylix will provide the first high performance Rapid Application Development (RAD) development tools for the Linux platform.

Kylix, a component-based development environment for two-way visual development of GUI, Internet, database, and server applications, will be powered by a new high-speed native Linux C/C++/Object Pascal (Delphi) compiler that will implement a Linux version of the Borland Visual Component Library architecture.

When Kylix is released later this year, virtually overnight there will be hundreds of thousands of applications available on the Linux platform, and many will be ports from Windows.

Special Request: John Kaster asked to have the following brought to your attention:

If you would, please take a look at this web page when you get a chance:

I'm trying to raise money to help fight blood cancers, and my travel schedule has really been hindering my campaigning efforts. If you could send a mailing out to your group, asking them to read that web site and, if they're so inclined, print and fill out the form that's linked off it and bring a check or credit card donation with them to the meeting next Monday, I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm way behind on the commitment I've made for raising the funds, and I know I should be able to get a lot of help from developers if there's a convenient way for them to help me. Thanks very much if you can do this.
