Borland Developers Conference
AND
Delphi Q & A
AND
JBuilder

This months meeting, being that it is August and we should really be at the beach, will be unstructured, informal, and informative.

We will start with a report and open discussion of the events, presentations and impressions of the Developers Conference from those who attended. If possible (timing is the issue, and if not this month then in September), we will have tapes of the opening session and Del Yocum’s keynote address. Borland’s strategic direction was outlined and several initiatives were announced that will be of interest to the Delphi community. (See page 3 for a just received press release of Borland’s 1st quarter results.)

We will have an extended Delphi question and answer session to address Delphi 3.0 issues and topics of interest. If you have had the opportunity to dig into Delphi 3.0 bring your knowledge (and code) and share them.

We will conclude the meeting with a quick, sneak preview of JBuilder. Borland announced its formal release will be in the 3rd quarter (this year) and the optimists felt it might even happen before our August meeting.

Delphi developers will be very interested in JBuilder. One, it is being crowned the "best of breed" for Java development. Two, the JBuilder component library (JBCL) and IDE will make any Delphi developer feel right at home. Delphi 3.0 and its Internet application development capabilities combined with JBuilder and its Internet applet (and application) development capabilities will provide the easiest to use, RAD environment for developing distributed applications. If there is enough JBuilder interest we will schedule a more extensive demonstration after it is formally released.
