Product Development with Delphi
Homesite - HTML Editor

Frustrated with the choice of HTML editors a couple years ago, Nick Bradbury decided to design his own HTML editor: HomeSite. Nick wanted to develop an editor that could do what he wanted it to do, and do it exactly how he wanted it to be done. Nick’s second decision was to select Delphi as his development tool.

Without a single paid advertisement, HomeSite shot to the top of the HTML editing charts and has stayed there. Recently, HomeSite was purchased by Allaire Corporation, Cambridge, MA, a company known for their web development product, Cold Fusion. Nick continues to head development of Homesite and at this months meeting will share with us his thoughts and experiences on using Delphi for commercial product development. In addition to discussing product development with Delphi, Nick will also share some of his insights on the present and future directions of dynamic HTML, XML and other Web related application development issues.

Nick developed HomeSite on the assumption that the user knows what he or she is doing and HomeSite is there to help get the job done faster, not there to dictate how the user should perform a specific task. The primary focus of the just released 3.0 version was to improve ease of coding, without taking away any of the control that HTML developers need, and "customizability". New features in this release include tag insight, tag completion, FTP uploading, improved table, frame and stylesheet wizards, and regular expression search-and-replace.
