Inprise Status Update
and
Inprise Application Server

This months meeting will begin with an update on the status of Inprise from Peter Marquez, Inprise Corporation and then continue with an introduction to the Inprise Application Server by Paul McGee, Senior Engineer from New England, Inprise Corporation.

The Inprise Application Server is an integrated set of software development and management tools that enables enterprises to capture business processes into reusable components that are platform-independent and can be assembled into scalable, distributed applications. It accelerates and simplifies the creation, deployment, and management of these distributed applications.

The Inprise Application Server enables end-to-end application development - from the integrated development environment (IDE), through the business logic, and then all the way through to accessing databases or host data in legacy systems. Once developed the application can be run within the framework provided by the Application Server.

The Inprise Application Server consists of several integrated components:

    JBuilder for Application Server
A version of the JBuilder IDE that is enabled for Application Server and lets you visually build CORBA applications that can run within the Application Server environment.
    Application Server Development Kit
Includes all the technology needed to develop to the CORBA API - in either Java or C++ - as well as develop transactional and secure distributed applications.
    • VisiBroker for Java and C++
    • VisiBroker Integrated Transaction Service (including ITS Session Managers for Oracle and Sybase, and JDBC DirectConnect driver)
    • VisiBroker Naming and Event Services
    • VisiBroker Gatekeeper
    • Application Server Developer Console
    Interbase InterClient and Server
The InterBase InterClient and InterBase Server to enable database connectivity for your application.
    Application Server
Includes the facilities and start-up services required to deploy and execute CORBA applications with Application Server
    • VisiBroker for Java and C++
    • VisiBroker Smart Agent and Object Activation Daemon (OAD) for Java and C++
    • AppCenter and Application Server Console agents
    • Application Server Developer Console
    • Application Server Console
    • VisiBroker Naming and Event Services
    • ITS Transaction Service, ITS Session Managers for Oracle and Sybase, and ITS JDBC DirectConnect
    • VisiBroker Gatekeeper
Sun Java Web Server, Inprise Edition
Used to deploy web-based distributed applications.
    AppCenter
Managing distributed applications in a multi-tier environment is a complex process that demands real time, online monitoring of objects and middleware as well as the other resources that together constitute a working application. AppCenter is a tool for visually managing distributed CORBA applications that can run within the Application Server environment.
